My Work
Currently my work is conveying the paradox of how nature is delicate and fragile yet at the
same time it is amazingly resilient. I am investigating the complexity of how organisms
relate and rely on one another and how from these co-existing relationships aesthetically
beautiful forms can arise over time. I am driven by a sense of discovery that has developed
as I studied the flora and fauna of the Appalachian Mountains and of Upstate Carolina.
Within my studio practice I am attempting to convey a mindfulness toward the environment
and lead the viewer to a place where they can recognize the integral connection we have
with nature. Through the abstraction of natural objects such as lichen, bark, leaves, shells
and abstraction of natural processes such as decomposition and new growth, I hope to reveal
the beauty of nature, and the importance of preserving ecological communities.
